A framework for contrast enhancement by dyadic wavelet analysis

چکیده
This paper introduces a method for accomplishing mammographic feature analysis by mul-tiresolution representations of the dyadic wavelet transform. Our approach consists of the application of non-linear enhancing functions E(z) within levels of a multiresolution representation. We show that there exists a simple constraint for E(z) such that image enhancement is guaranteed. Furthermore, a simple case in which the enhancement operator is a constant multiplier is mathematically equivalent to traditional unsharp masking. We show quantitatively that transform coeecients, modiied within each level by non-linear operators, can make more obvious unseen or barely seen features of mammography without requiring additional radiation. Our results are compared with traditional image enhancement techniques by measuring the local contrast of known mammographic features.

De - Noising and contrast enhancement
This paper presents an approach which addresses both de-noising and contrast enhancement. In a multiscale wavelet analysis framework, we take advantage of both soft thresholding and hard thresholding wavelet shrinkage techniques to reduce noise. In addition, we carry out nonlinear processing to enhance contrast within structures and along boundaries. Feature restoration and enhancement are acco...
متن کاملInteractive Wavelet Processing and Techniquesapplied to Digital
We present an interactive scheme for processing of digital mammograms relying upon a steerable dyadic wavelet transform. Coeecients of the translation and rotation-invariant transform are interactively processed before an inverse transform is applied. Analysis is carried out at dyadic scales and along arbitrary orientations. Local orientation is computed at each level of scale and spatial posit...

| This paper introduces a novel approach for accomplishing mammographic feature analysis by overcomplete multiresolution representations. We show that eecient representations may be iden-tiied within a continuum of scale-space and used to enhance features of importance to mammography. Methods of contrast enhancement are described based on three overcomplete multiscale representations: (1) The d...

متن کاملA Discrete Dyadic Wavelet Transform for Multidimensional Feature Analysis
Discrete non-redundant wavelet transforms have been successfully applied previously in image compression applications [2], [6], [17]. However, the lack of translation invariance and aliasing present after the decomposition stage [3] may introduce undesirable artifacts for the analysis of medical signals and images, and can justify the use of a redundant wavelet representation. The discrete dyad...
